Admissions Information
Applicants to the Master’s in Security and Safety Leadership or graduate certificate programs must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 point scale) from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Two or more years of work experience in a related field.
 Application Information
To receive either of the graduate certificates, students must achieve a grade of B or higher in each course offered in the certificate program. Students must apply and be accepted into the respective CPS program for the university to award either the graduate certificate or degree credential.
The Admissions Committee will consider graduate level coursework in its evaluation of candidates for the CPS master’s programs.

Please submit the following documents to The George Washington University, College of Professional Studies, Office of Admissions, 805 21st Street NW, Suite 301, Washington, DC 20052:
- Proof of employment as a safety and/or security professional. Click here to download the SSL employment verification form.
- A non-refundable application fee of $60 (waived for GW alums).
- A completed application (submitted online).
- An official or certified transcript from each institution of higher education attended, whether a degree was earned or not. A detailed evaluation is required for an international transcript showing all course work, grades, and proof of the earned degree from the non-U.S. institution attended. The evaluation should also determine whether the degree earned is equivalent to a U.S. degree.
- Current resume (submitted online or in print).
- Statement of Purpose (submitted online) — a 250- to 500-word essay outlining the student’s academic objectives and career plans.
- Two professional or academic references, including one from a current supervisor, if possible (online or in print).
- Official scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), if applicable.
