Admissions Information

Program applicants should have earned an undergraduate degree, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, from an accredited institution of higher learning, and provide application materials listed below.


Application Information

Apply now via the Web! An Electronic Graduate Admissions Application is now available through GW's website at www.gwu.edu/gradinfo. This online process allows you to submit your graduate application and electronically send off requests for letters of recommendation.

To receive the traditional paper application by mail, please call 703-726-8297. If you choose to complete a paper application, submit the following documents to:

  • Current resume with education and work history
  • Statement of purpose: a 250- to 500-word essay giving your professional and/or academic objectives, publishing interests, and career plans
  • Two professional or academic references, preferably one from a current supervisor
  • One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended, whether or not a degree was conferred. A detailed evaluation is required for an international transcript showing all course work, grades, and proof of the earned degree from the non-U.S. institution attended. The evaluation should also determine whether the degree earned is equivalent to a U.S. degree.
  • Completion of the admissions application form with non-refundable application fee, payable to The George Washington University
  • International students must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores

All GW Near You registrations are conducted via GWeb. This system will enroll you in classes and automatically generate your schedule and bill.
