The Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Publishing gives students a solid background in all areas of publishing, ensuring that students have both the knowledge and skills to build a successful career in an industry experiencing rapid technological and economic change. The program integrates traditional print with electronic publishing topics, including editorial acquisitions, production and design, copyright law in print and cyberspace, marketing, distribution, management, and business. Designed for current and aspiring professionals, including post-bachelor and post-graduate students who have earned their degrees in other disciplines but desire careers in publishing, the program offers courses in the evenings at GW's convenient Alexandria Graduate Education Center. Students can complete the degree in two years while working.
The curriculum is regularly reviewed by an advisory board which, like the faculty, includes nationally and internationally recognized leaders in print and digital publication, to ensure that the MPS in Publishing will provide a solid background for entry into all areas of publishing and offer professionals already in the field an opportunity to enhance their careers with the latest technological advances.
The new Certificate in Journal Publishing is specifically designed for professionals looking to expand their knowledge and expertise of journal publishing, including online research and library integration, peer review, open access publishing, and digital archiving. After completion of the one-year, 12-credit program, certificate graduates can elect to take an additional 18-credits to complete the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree in Publishing. MPS students can also take up to two courses in the certificate program to satisfy one of their track area requirements.
