The George Washington University
Accelerated Master of Business Administration
Program Curriculum

Program Format

The "Accelerated" option sets the pace and intensity for students. This option is more structured and fast paced. Students participate in the accelerated option as part of a cohort for the first year of the program, including one weekend residency prior to the first semester. For three consecutive semesters (1 year) students complete 34.5 creit hours of core courses. In the second year of the program, students individually select elective courses to complete their degree requirements.

  • On GW's Virginia Campus, classes meet one evening a week from 7:10-9:40 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

The core courses in the curriculum emphasize ethics and responsibility, leadership and globalization. Core courses address a full range of business offerings in the School of Business.

12 Elective Courses (18-Credit-Hours)

Electives provide flexibility and opportunities for additional depth or breadth in an area of study. The diversity of elective courses helps students position themselves for immediate and long-range opportunities. GW's School of Business is known for its impressive array of electives designed to respond to the complete range of ever-changing business issues. Electives not available at the Virginia Campus may be taken at the Washington, DC Campus.

Experience is the greatest teacher, on the job and in the classroom. Some prospective MBA students already have academic credit for comparable core courses and may be waived from those requirements if the coursework was completed within the last two years.

Electives at the Virginia Campus can be selected from the following areas:

  • Finance and Investments
  • Information Systems Management
  • International Business
  • Marketing

If transfer courses from another institution are being used toward the elective requirements, the two electives which may come from outside the School of Business will be reduced accordingly.

Electives are also open to Virginia Campus students at the Washington, DC campus in Foggy Bottom

Degree Requirements

35 graduate courses (52.5 credit hours) are required for completion of the graduate program in Business Administration. Students are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B).

Transfer of Credit

A maximum of six credit hours of graduate course work may be approved for transfer to the School of Business from enrollment at GW in non-degree status or from another degree-granting school of GW or another AACSB accredited college or university under the following conditions: The course work must be approved as part of the student's program of studies; it must not have been applied to the completion of requirements for another degree, it must be at the graduate level, it must have been taken within the two years prior to acceptance into the program, and the student must have received a grade of B or better. A transcript and description of the course work must be on file before the petition can be considered. Should advance standing be granted, the credit will count but not the grade.
