New Applicants

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, and the completion of PSLD 100 and PSLD 102 or equivalent with a grade of B or higher in each.

Master's Degree Admission Requirements for Alumni of the Landscape Design Graduate Certificate or GW's non-credit Certificate Program in Landscape Design.

You've graduated from GW's Landscape Design Graduate Certificate Program and you:

Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

You've graduated with the noncredit certificate after 2002 and you:

Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Take PSLD 231, Contemporary Themes in Landscape Design
Submit a portfolio showing currency and high qualify professional experience

You've graduated with the noncredit certificate between 1997 and 2002 and you:

Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Take PSLD 231, Contemporary Themes in Landscape Design
Take PSLD 214, Planting Design I and PSLD 215 Planting Design II
Submit a portfolio showing a minimum of two years of high quality professional experience since graduation
Submit a letter of recommendation supporting the two years of professional experience

These admissions policies will remain in effect until 2012, after which this waiver of credits will no longer be available.

All applicants may be required to submit the following. Please consult the admissions chart for information regarding your particular circumstance.

Your current resume with education and work history
Letter(s) of recommendation
Statement of Purpose, a 250 to 500 word essay giving your academic objectives, research interests and career plans
One official or certified transcript from each institution of higher education attended, whether or not a degree was conferred. A detailed evaluation is required for an international transcript showing all course work, grades, and proof of the earned degree from the non-U.S. institution attended. The evaluation should also determine whether the degree earned is equivalent to a U.S. degree.
International Students may need to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores
Completed and signed application form with non-refundable application fee, payable to The George Washington University.

Note: No GRE or GMAT is required.

Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis, however the above deadlines must be met if applying for financial aid.

TRANSFER CREDIT, WAIVERS, AND ADVANCED STANDING

Transfer of credit will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. A maximum of one-quarter of the credit hours of graduate course work required for the graduate program applied for may be approved for transfer to a graduate certificate program from enrollment at GW in non-degree status or from another degree-granting school of this University or another accredited college or university. For a transfer of credit to be approved, all the following criteria must be met:

The course work must be from an accredited institution.
The course work must have been taken within (two) years prior to admission to the certificate program.
Student must have received a grade of B or higher in each course for which transfer credit is sought.
The course work must be approved by the academic program director as applying towards program requirements.
The course work must be at a graduate level or at a junior or senior undergraduate level.
Credit applied toward a previous degree may not be transferred.

The Woody Plants sequence of six credits (PSLD 102, 220, 222, 224, 226, 228) may be waived by registering and sitting for a Comprehensive Plants Examination.

MASTER'S DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

To earn the Graduate Certificate or Master's Degree in Landscape Design, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher. Students are expected to be continuously enrolled and actively engaged in fulfilling the requirements of the program each semester. Students must complete the program within five (5) years of admission. Requests for leave of absence and other interruptions of course work should be submitted in writing to the program office at the College of Professional Studies.

MASTER OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM

GW offers interested students an opportunity to expand their Landscape Design studies to include a Master of Landscape Architecture degree (M.L.A.). The George Washington University and Virginia Tech enjoy a unique partnership which allows students to apply simultaneously for admission to VT's College of Architecture and Urban Studies' M.L.A. program and GW's Landscape Design graduate certificate program.

This relationship also allows those who have completed or are already pursuing the GW Landscape Design certificate an opportunity to apply to the VT M.L.A. program with one year advanced standing. Virginia Tech offers the M.L.A. at its Washington Alexandria Architecture Center.

Registration Information

New, nondegree students wishing to register for the introductory classes (PSLD 100 & PSLD 102) must complete the Application for Non-Degree Admission at http://www.gwu.edu/~ous/. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee to be paid on-line when submitting the application. You will be emailed by the end of two business days with instructions to retrieve your GWid at http://gwid.gwu.edu/. You will need your GWid to register via GWeb.

Registration for returning non-degree or degree students is conducted via GWEB. This system will enroll you in classes and automatically generate your schedule and bill.
