Human Resource Development (HRD) professionals are at the leading edge in preparing their organizations to meet the competitive challenges of the global economy. HR practitioners make their greatest contribution to organization competitiveness through change management, strategic human resource planning, executive development, organizational effectiveness, and culture management. These practice areas are at the core of The George Washington University's HRD Master's Program.
Our curriculum is designed to equip both managers and human resource professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to diagnose, develop, teach individuals, teams, and organizations. More importantly, our students enhance their ability to design change efforts that truly support their organization's strategic direction. GW's Master's Program in Human Resource Development provides our students with the knowledge and skills they need to make a substantial impact on their organization's competitiveness.
Our program offers a unique way for students to earn an exceptional Master's Degree while working full-time. Some of our distinctive features include a:
- Convenient schedule with classes on alternating Saturdays (and no late week night classes after a long day at work). Just eight Saturday sessions per semester!
- Supportive, collegial cohort culture where you will build professional ties that will last throughout your career.
- Value for application to ensure that you are building highly relevant, marketable skills. In fact, our motto is "use on Monday what you learn on Saturday," reflecting
our strong belief that all of our courses should have real time value for the working professional.
- Connection between your courses, your job, and your career with coursework and a final capstone that you design based on your interests and career goals.
- Cohesive, contemporary curriculum organized around the issues confronting Human Resource, HRD and Organizational Development professionals, as well as managers and leaders. We also offer a study abroad course where students explore the HR issues facing emerging economies in Eastern Europe.
- Highly respected degree with local, national and international recognition.
- Tuition support program to help reduce the costs of your education.
HRD Weekend Master's Cohort
The HRD Weekend Master's Cohort Program is designed for individuals who wish to become leading practitioners within their organizations. Most students are mid-career professionals who have years of work experience. Students enter and go through the program as part of a cohort or group, which permits sharing of experiences and provides social and emotional support for the duration of the program. Classes meet all day twice a month on alternating Saturdays.
Students take two courses each semester, including the summer, and complete the degree program in two years. The primary entry point is January (spring semester) of each calendar year, although it is possible for a smaller number of students to be admitted in May (during the summer term). Each semester's courses correspond with a unifying core theme. In addition, each cohort chooses several electives in their second year of study.
Course assignments provide a blend of theory and practice and are designed to provide tangible benefits to students and their organizations. By the end of the program, learners will have designed and completed a learning portfolio of their academic work tailored to meet their individual and/or organizational needs. The HRD Weekend Master's Cohort Program offers a unique way for students to earn an exceptional master's degree while working full-time.
Background
Established by Dr. Leonard Nadler in 1965, GW's HRD Program is the oldest in the nation. Dr. Nadler was among the first to popularize the term "human resource development" in his many presentations and publications, and guided the program to a national and international reputation before his retirement in 1988. In more recent years, the HRD Program has changed its primary focus from training and development to preparing leaders who can help organizations continuously learn and improve.
