Degree vs. Non-Degree Registration

The registration process does not facilitate admission to a degree program. For degree admission information, please refer to the Admission/Application section of this site or call the program academic advisor. For non-degree registration, please visit www.gwu.edu/~ous.

Degree Candidates

If you are a degree candidate and cannot register via GWeb, please contact the program department to resolve the problem.

DO NOT use the Quick Entry process if you are a degree candidate. This process will automatically change your status to non-degree!

Non-Degree Registration (Quick Entry)

New, non-degree students must call (202) 994-4900 or 1-800-526-5641 Monday through Friday between 8:30am-4:45pm. You must be a U.S. citizen to use the Quick Entry process. When speaking to a registration assistant, be sure to specify you are registering for an off-campus class. Once the Quick Entry process has been completed, non-degree students will be eligible to register via GWeb.

If you experience problems or delays, call the College of Professional Studies (CPS) Student Administrative Services Office, (202) 994-5321 for assistance.
* Some programs do not allow non-degree student registrations. Doctoral students are advised not to take classes as non-degree students.

General Information

All GW Near You registrations are conducted via GWeb. The system will enroll you in classes and automatically generate your schedule and bill.

$80 fee applies during late registration.
Please see individual programs for exact start dates.

General information: (202) 973-1130 or (757) 249-2522 or (804) 649-0328
See contact information below for help with registration issues or problems.

The following is required to register by GWeb:

Student-ID

GW issues a system generated ID (GWid) to to new degree or non-degree students. Your GWid is the letter 'G' followed by an 8-digit number. If you are a continuing student, you may visit http://gwid.gwu.edu/ to retrieve your GWid.

PIN

New students are assigned 6-digit PINs made up of your birth month, day and year (i.e.012278). This number, together with the nine-digit identification number (or GWid), creates a unique combination designed to ensure private access to your file. It is extremely important that this number be kept confidential. You are strongly encouraged to change your PIN, which you may do via GWeb, by selecting six numbers you can easily remember. For assistance call Banner Security at (202) 994-0567.

New Students

Students who are currently admitted to, or enrolled in, degree programs are eligible to register automatically by using our registration system. If you cannot register, please contact the admissions office of the school to which you have applied.

New students who wish to take a course at GW without entering a degree program must use the Quick Entry process before attempting to register. Please follow the instructions "Degree vs. Non-Degree Registration".

GWeb Access to Student Records

The University provides students access to their student records through the GWeb Information System. To access GWeb, students must provide their nine-digit student identification number (or GWid) and their six-digit personal identification number. Students are responsible for any changes made using their student ID Number and PIN. Knowledge of your student identification number and PIN allows access to your personal information, such as: address, telephone, registration, schedule, and grades, so keep these numbers as safe and secure as you would your debit or credit card numbers. You should not share your student identification number of PIN with others. It is strongly recommended that you change your PIN the first time you access GWeb. Select six numbers that you can easily remember.
