Historical Background
Since 1954, through the department then known as Engineering Administration, the School of Engineering and Applied Science has offered graduate programs designed to provide technical and management education for the engineering or business professional in specialized areas of interest. With one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind in the United States, the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department continually updates its offerings in keeping with current worldwide reengineering requirements and explosive technological developments.
Mission of the EMSE Department
The mission of the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering is to deliver an integrated program of research, teaching and public service to managers of technology in industry, government and international entities. The EMSE Department develops creative leadership to bridge dynamic, complex technologies and societal needs. The education and research programs provide an understanding of the managerial role, analysis of the diverse functions of technical organizations and instruction in modern management techniques and tools as they apply to formulating and executing decisions in engineering and scientific organizations.
