Admissions and Registration

Admissions Information

Students applying for admissions must meet the entrance requirements of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). A bachelor's degree with a minimum grade point average of B (3.0) in the last two years of undergraduate work is required.

The following information should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions in the School of Engineering and Applied Science for admission:

  • Completed graduate on-line or printed application form with non-refundable application fee. Students may apply on-line at www.seasva.gwu.edu.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not a degree was earned.
  • Statement of purpose (250-500 words) detailing your decision to apply to George Washington University graduate program
  • Scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) by applicants whose native language is not English and who are not citizens of countries where English is an official language.

Transfer Credits

With an academic advisors approval, up to six semester hours of graduate-level course work may be accepted in transfer and credited toward a master's degree. Courses must have been taken within the past five years, be related in subject matter, not have been applied toward another degree, and have been successfully completed with grades of B or better. Transfer credit regulations apply to courses taken by nondegree students through the GW Office of University Solutions.
