The George Washington University's three graduate degrees in Educational Leadership and Administration prepare practitioners in teaching or teaching-related careers for leadership roles as principals, mid-level administrators, and instructional supervisors in the nation's K-12 educational systems.

Due to an increasing shortage of school-based professionals prepared to move into leadership positions in schools and school districts, opportunities abound for those with graduate and advanced degrees in educational leadership. Graduates of the Educational Administration programs at The George Washington University will be ready to meet today's challenges of school reform, growing school enrollments, and increasing retirements, to name a few.

Our expert program faculty - scholars, authors, and experienced former principals, superintendents, and state educational officers - bring to life in the classroom the obstacles faced by educational administrators in today's society. Our curriculum is designed to help administrators meet the increasing needs and demands that await 21st Century educators - to be intellectual leaders who understand curriculum and instruction, who motivate and support teachers and staff, and whose ideas help lead today's and tomorrow's vibrant educational community.

The Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration

The Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration is a post-Master's Degree that provides educational personnel at the elementary and secondary levels added expertise in the field of administration. This program can also provide educators with an opportunity to meet multi-state academic licensing requirements for principal, assistant principal, and/or instructional supervisory personnel. Candidates must have three years of teaching and/or administrative experience upon completion of the program.
