Academic and social pressures of childhood and adolescence can compel students to seek experienced, caring, professional guidance in the safety of their school environment. The George Washington University Master's Degree program in School Counseling enables participants to meet the growing needs of K-12 students by providing instruction in effective interventions to support sound psychological and behavioral development.

The School Counseling program is dedicated to the preparation of students to become knowledgeable and ethical counseling professionals for employment as school counselors in public and private schools and related educational settings for diverse populations. We endorse an integrated approach to school counseling with other school services. Our program contributes to human development, adjustment and change by encouraging our diverse faculty and student body to engage in reflective practice, innovative inquiry and responsible social action.

Please visit the Freshman Transition Initiative (FTI) web site to see the initiative that is being adopted by schools all over the country.

The master's program in School Counseling is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which is the nationally recognized agency for the accreditation of graduate programs in counseling. The program is also accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
