Admissions and Registration

Admissions Requirements

Alexandria students are admitted for fall entry only. In order to qualify for the M.A. degree program, students must be admitted to the Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD).

Applicants are required to have:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Minimum 2.75 undergraduate grade point average (GPA)
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from a professional supervisor
  • Acceptable scores on either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
    The standardized test is waived for applicants pursuing a second master's degree
  • Interview with the program advisor

Transfer of Credit

Prospective students should contact the program director regarding potential transfer credits.


Application Procedure

Applicants to the GSEHD are required to submit:

  • Completed graduate application form with non-refundable application fee
  • Official transcripts from each college or university attended
  • Official GRE or MAT scores
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose (250-500 words)
  • Current resume
  • Copies of any teaching certificates you hold

Apply now via the Web - an Electronic Graduate Admissions Application is now available through GW's website at www.gwu.edu/gradinfo. This online process allows you to submit your graduate application and electronically send off requests for letters of recommendation. To receive the traditional paper application by mail, please call 202-973-1130.
